Access Center Mission Statement

  • Our mission is to provide local, regional, and global access to UTMB healthcare utilizing cutting-edge technology and the latest telemedicine advancements for patients and physicians.
  • Our goal is to provide timely and efficient access while facilitating physician-to-physician and patient-to- physician relationships.
  • Our primary objective is to take ownership of each call, make any connection, facilitate any request, and navigate the physician or patient through the healthcare system.

The Access Center, formally known as the Health Care Hotline, marked its 13th anniversary in 2008. We strive to provide first class service to the communities UTMB serves, UTMB employees, and referring physicians.  Averaging over 800 calls a day, our UTMB Access Center meets the needs of these important groups through appointment scheduling, telephone triage, and physician referral programs.

Our nurses are highly trained in telephone triage with at least five years of critical care and specialty nursing backgrounds.  Our Nurse Navigator Program facilitates community and global health endeavors such as: employee wellness scheduling, tele-medicine and tele-radiology. Our Service Representatives specialize in customer satisfaction and problem solving health care access.  Together, the Access Center staff supports community endeavors and the University’s Nurses Magnet Status philosophy.
