About the Staff
Vickie C. Jones, M.S.
Vickie C. Jones is a BSL2 and BSL3 trainer for the Laboratory Biosafety Training Program, a component of UTMB's National Biocontainment Training Center. She is also a consultant for UTMB's Biological and Chemical Safety Program in the department of Environmental Health and Safety.
Vickie has worked for over 10 years in the field of research and training in the Galveston area. She served as a research associate for the UTMB Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Internal Medicine where she instructed laboratory users in techniques specific to their research in infectious diseases and functioned as a laboratory manager to support research data analysis. She also trained laboratory staff on fundamental laboratory protocols and safety requirements as well as monitored and maintained compliance with the Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Health and Safety Services, Animal Resources Facilities, and granting agencies. In doing so, she successfully wrote, reviewed and updated animal and human-use protocols, amendments, informed consent forms, and other regulatory documents. She has experience with BSL2 and BSL3 agents, and live animal science, care and surgery. Vickie also instructs in the Health Unit Coordinator certification program at Galveston College.
Vickie received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Howard University and her Master of Science degree in biological sciences from University of Houston at Clear Lake. She has been a past presenter at American Association of Immunologists conferences and has published in such journals as Infection & Immunity, Journal of Leukocyte Biology, and Immunology & Cell Biology.
