The Center to Eliminate Health Disparities (CEHD) at the University of Texas Medical Branch, located on Galveston Island, Texas, is hiring three positions: Health Policy Research Fellow, Health and Social Media Program Manager, and Health Disparities Analyst. 1. Health Policy Research Fellow
Job summary:
The purpose of this position is to advance policy research, and support training and education of health professional students in health policy in relation to health equity and social determinants of health. Current areas of policy related research and teaching at CEHD include reducing disparities in UTMB patient care and outcomes, advancing health equity through school health initiatives related to social determinants of health, the impact of health reform and strengthening the primary care system, environmental justice, and global health issues. Fellows have the opportunity to develop other areas of research, and the fellowship is renewable.
Essential job functions:
Education/experience:
Master’s or doctoral degree in public health, social sciences, planning or policy, or related field. At least 2 years of experience working on projects related to health equity and social determinants of health. Experience in grant writing, project planning and management, and policy analysis important. Experience working in partnership with community organizations and on action-research projects. Strong quantitative and/or qualitative analysis skills a plus, such as database analysis or ethnographic analysis. Teaching experience preferred. Spanish language skills a plus.

Salary range:

2. Health and Social Media Program Manager
Job summary:
This position is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and maintaining an institutional approach to advancing patient and population health through social media tools.
Essential job functions:
Education/experience:
Master’s in Public Health with experience in using social media to advance patient and population health. Minimum of two years of experience working on health and social media projects. Training/experience specific to social media as applied to issues of health disparities and social determinants of health is preferred. Experience in grant writing a plus. Spanish language skills a plus.

$50,000-75,000, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
3. Health Disparities Analyst
Job summary:
The primary responsibility for this position is to undertake a specific initiative involving research on health disparities, utilizing data from the UTMB health information system to identify opportunities for improvements in patient care, reduction of disparities, and increasing equity in patient care settings. Additional research projects can be developed according to availability of time after meeting the primary job responsibility.

Education/experience:
Master’s or doctoral degree in health services research, health economics, public health, biostatistics, or related field. Previous experience with database creation and management, and in analyzing data from health information systems. Excellent knowledge of Statistical software (SAS, Stata, or SPSS). Experience working on issues of health disparities required. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and/or on environmental justice issues a plus.
Salary range:
$45,000-65,000, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package.
