The purpose of this conference is to address the opportunities and challenges of mainstreaming EBP and leading the nursing workforce to a "knowledge-force" to bolster nurses' readiness for the future.

At the conclusion of the Conference, the participant should be able to:

Discuss the value of EBP within a complex and dynamically changing health care landscape.

Describe the tools and pathways of DCI© in enculturating EBP and cultivating innovation.

Review the five EBP skill sets and practical applications to clinical practice.

This session will provide inquiry-based knowledge about transforming a clinical issue into a searchable question. Clinical exemplars will be presented that serve as a roadmap for practice inquiry.

 
B1: Navigating the Magnet Journey within a Culture of EBP
This session will emphasize ways in which an EBP culture serves as a catalyst in achieving the standards of excellence identified by the Magnet recognition program. The five Magnet components and their observed relationship with nurses' engagement in EBP will be described.
C1: Streaming EBP in a Culture of Value-Based Competition
This session will frame an approach for balancing organizational stability and a culture of innovation amidst a highly competitive and resource restrictive environment. Multiple strategies on the impact of EBP in creating value for patients and sustainability for the future will be examined.

This session will present DCI© approaches for accessing evidence for point of care application and for conducting full evidence-based review. Effective search techniques will be demonstrated, highlighting the DCI© one-stop EBP website for quick access to multiple sources of evidence.

B2: Developing EBP Tools amidst the Sea of Rapid Change
Using exemplars, this session will feature the bench-to-bedside approaches in translating the best evidence into readily accessible formats for point of care application.

C2: Achieving Evidence-Based Patient Care in a Tsunami of a Digitized Information Age
This session will describe issues and principles on leveraging technology to mainstream EBP and surpass the waves of information overload. Applications that jointly optimize the fusion of high-tech and high-touch evidence-based care will be discussed.

This session will introduce DCI© tools and tactics for recognizing the relative strength of various evidence. Principles and pointers for critiquing research-based evidence to weed out the bad from the good, asa and identifying the level of the evidence will be discussed.

 

B3: Forging Interdisciplinary Voyages to Provide Evidence-Based Patient Care
This session will illustrate the power of partnerships in bringing together the unique expertise of care teams to provide evidence-based patient care. Archetypes of inter-professional collaboration leading to a practice culture grounded on best evidence will be recounted.

C3: Surging the Crest of Enhancing Patient Experience through EBP
This session will emphasize the powerful force of the patient's perspectives as one of the key sources of evidence in EBP. Issues relative to patient's/family participation  in care as well as strategies and measures of patient satisfaction will be revisited within the context of evidence-based health care.

B4: Employing EBP as an Anchor for Improvement Initiatives
Using exemplars, this session will illustrate the utilization of the EBP process in developing, testing, and implementing improvement and/or change initiatives.
 

C4: Sailing the Ethics of EBP
This session will describe the history and resources available to nurses as they align their ethical obligations within an EBP culture. Drawing from several sources, the nurses’ duty related to integrating principles of EBP with ethical reasoning and action in nursing practice will be explored.
