Dr. Parazynski will share his expertise in bringing innovation to the bedside and lead us in the exploration of new horizons using the knowledge gleaned from the conference for adaptations in diverse work settings.

This session will provide inquiry-based know-how about transforming a clinical issue into a searchable question. Clinical exemplars will be presented that serve as a roadmap for clinical inquiry.

Session 2-A Access the Evidence (Navigating the search for evidence)

This session will present processes for accessing evidence for point of care application and for conducting full evidence-based review. Effective search techniques will be shared and demonstrated, highlighting the DCI one-stop website that provides quick access to multiple sources of evidence.

Session 3-A Appraise the Evidence (Evaluating the evidence)

This session will introduce tools/processes for figuring out that all evidence is not created equal. Principles and pointers for critiquing research-based evidence to weed out the bad from the good and identifying the level of the evidence will be discussed.

Session 4-A Apply the Evidence (Utilizing the evidence that works)

This session will guide the participant into the DCI© process of mapping, relating and interpreting the evidence. The DCI© wheel will be shared as a tool to determine the relative strength of the evidence given a clinical issue/focused question.

Session 5-A Alert Peers (Spreading the new knowledge) 
  This session will provide a menu of options about sharing the new knowledge. Clinically-oriented  approaches  for disseminating evidence-based practices will be reviewed.

This session will showcase nurses lived experiences in learning and applying the DCI© 5As as a portable tool in making clinical judgment and everyday decision making. The focus will be on innovative applications in a variety of clinical situations and settings.

Session 1-B Incorporating EBP within the Nursing Professional Practice Model 

This session will apply the principles of EBP in creating a Nursing Professional Practice Model (PPM). The integration of PPM in everyday practice will be highlighted,  alongside EBP as an inherent element in the implementation and evaluation of the PPM.

Session 2-B Developing EBP Implementation Tools (Policies, Guidelines, Checklists, etc.)

This session will spotlight the bench-to-bedside experiences of nurses in translating the  results of EBP reviews into readily accessible formats for point of care application. The incorporation of EBP implementation tools in clinical workflow will be shared.

This session will illustrate the power of partnerships in bringing together the unique expertise of care teamto provide evidence-based patient care. Exemplar of inter-professional collaboration leading to a practice culture grounded on best evidence will be recounted.

This session will speak to the utilization of the EBP process in developing, testing, and implementing modified or new processes of care delivery. Overcoming challenges and rolling out successful initiatives will be shared.

Session 5-B Building a Network of EBP Culture Keepers & Game Changers

This session will share strategic initiatives for nurturing and growing a network of EBP culture keepers and game changers to reach the tipping point of EBP. Pathways to develop/advance EBP competency and subsequent transfer of knowledge in practice-based settings will be described.

Session 6-B Streaming EBP throughout Nursing Systems (Clinical Ladders, Performance Appraisal Systems, Standards of Practice, etc.)

This session will accentuate organizational strategies aimed to embed EBP into the nurse's practice, advancement and evaluation. EBP tools for assessing engagement in EBP will be discussed.

This session will frame the approaches for balancing organizational stability and a culture of innovation amidst a highly competitive and resource restrictive environment. Multiple perspectives and strategies regarding the impact of EBP in creating value for patients, result-oriented competition, superior care across the continuum, and sustainability for the future will be examined.

Session 2-C Achieving Evidence-Based Patient Care in the Tsunami of a Highly Digitized Information Age

This session will describe the principles and processes of harnessing the power of information technology to survive and surpass the wave of information overload within a high-tech patient care environment. Applications that jointly optimize the fusion of high-tech and high-touch evidence-based care will be discussed.

This session will call to mind the powerful force of the patient's perspectives as one of the sources of evidence in EBP. Data reflecting patients' stories that trigger activation of evidence-based quality improvement initiatives will be revisited.

Session 4-C Cruising the Metrics of Evaluating EBP Outcomes

This session will present a range of data-driven monitoring and evaluation tools to account for EBP outcomes. A critical inquiry about overcoming methodological challenges in documenting, evaluating and interpreting the patient's experience in relation to the clinical effectiveness of nursing interventions will be investigated.

Session 5-C Sailing into the Ethics of EBP

This session will describe the challenges of aligning ethical obligations within an EBP culture. Drawing from the Nursing Code of Ethics, clinical scenarios in which the principles of EBP are integrated with ethical reasoning in nursing practice will be revisited.

Session 6-C Navigating the Magnet Journey in a Culture of EBP and Innovation

This session will emphasize ways in which an EBP culture serves as catalyst  in achieving the hallmark of excellence fostered by the Magnet recognition program.  The five Magnet components and their observed relationship with nurses engagement in EBP will be discussed.
