For Our Patients

Dear Patients

UTMB Multispecialty Care Center and Starks Diabetes Clinic Lobby
UTMB Multispecialty Care Center and Starks Diabetes Clinic Lobby

We welcome you to "For Our Patient" page of our web site. We provide a number of cardiology services as listed in Service Provided. Please go to Our Doctors to find a cardiologist. We have several locations as shown in Our Locations.

Our Division is a part of UTMB Health, the oldest medical school and hospital in the state of Texas, founded in 1891. Since then, our focus has always been to establish the system that would allow us to provide our patients with best possible care. We call the system academic cardiology–the dynamic integration of research, patient care, and education.

We believe that our patient care is only enhanced by rigorous clinical and basic cardiology research. Research means not only innovation and discovery, but the ability to solve the complex problems. We publish a number of clinical and basic research papers in medical and scientific journals. Because of our research efforts, we are fully updated with the newest progress in cardiology and contribute to the future invention and discovery in the field.

We also believe that the highest degree of professionalism and compassion is mandatory in the delivery of exemplary cardiology care. We deliver the most appropriate care in each and every case. This means that we do not perform unnecessary tests or procedures and that when intervention is necessary due to progression of the condition, we are swift to perform them. Every decision here is based on evidence provided by the literature that is carefully interpreted by our highly experienced cardiologists. We adopt an academic group practice style where all of our cardiologists are full-time professors appointed by our Medical School after careful credentialing and stringent selection process. We are also salaried employees of the UTMB Health, whose only incentive is to provide highest quality care and best possible outcome to our patients. At UTMB Health, you will see some of the best cardiologists in the country. Here is more–our Medical School is the home for a number of outstanding physicians and surgeons of many different fields. We work together to solve the complex clinical situations and problems that no other single-specialty group is prepared to handle.

Finally, we are educators–we teach and train medical students, young physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. We are highly knowledgeable of the theory and practice of cardiology.

We believe that it is important for our patients to be able to stay close to their home and family and to receive the state-of-the-art, cutting-edge cardiology care. We have several outpatient clinics in League City, Texas City, and Galveston Island to serve our patients in their own community. Further, many of UTMB employees seek cardiology care at our clinics and hospitals. They are usually familiar with what is taking place in the organization and in our division. Their confidence in our group is a reflection of the institution's trust and support of our division.

We look forward to working with you for your heart health.

Faculty members of the Division of Cardiology at UTMB Health are strongly motivated to provide our patients with state-of-the-art and compassionate care, made possible by their years of experience, teaching, and research. Our strength is the specialization and collegiality–while each faculty member focuses on a very specialized area of cardiology, he/she collegially interacts with each other to provide our patients with best possible care–the best of both worlds. We have four (4) major sections within our division–General Cardiology including Cardiac Imaging, Consultative and Inpatient Cardiology, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Heart Station; Heart Failure, Transplant, and Circulatory Assist Device Service; Heart Rhythm (Electrophysiology) Service; and Interventional Cardiology Service including Peripheral Vascular Intervention.
