Overview

Dr. Kalpana Gupta is a board-certified Physician and an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine. She received a M.D. degree from the University of South Alabama, and completed her Residency and Internship from the Medical College of Virginia. She also completed Faculty Development Fellowship in General Internal Medicine from the University of North Carolina.

Dr. Gupta's special interests include Pre-Operative Medicine, Resident/ Intern teaching and In-Patient Medicine Consult Services. She is a subject matter expert in the field of Pre-Operative Medicine. She has peer-reviewed Abstracts and has several Abstract publications to her credit. She has presented at several regional, national and international conferences and is an active member of various professional groups, including the American College of Physicians (ACP). She is also a recipient of several awards for her contributions in teaching and medical care. She has also given Guest Lectures at various universities, seminars and national conventions.

Prior to joining the UTMB, Dr. Gupta served as an Assistant Professor, senior Attending Physician and Director of Clinical Apprentice Program at the George Washington University (GWU). There she had been instrumental in developing advanced curriculum for medical students and spearheading the Clinical Apprenticeship Program that she started and administered. The Apprenticeship program was a major success for the department and proved highly beneficial in developing hundreds of medical students, Interns and Residents to be better health care professionals. She developed the curriculum for Pre-operative Clinic and Inpatient Medicine Consult Service, and also served as a Preceptor for Interns and Residents. She was also recognized for her clinical expertise in Continuity Clinic and for her contributions as a Ward Attending Physician in the hospital. In addition, she had served as a mentor/ advisor for Residents and her past students/ Interns/ Residents are holding key positions nationally and internationally.

Dr. Gupta also served as an Assistant Professor at the Medical College of Virginia (MCV) just after completing her Residency program there. She was an Attending Physician at the hospital and Continuity Clinic Physician. During here tenure there, her accomplishments included several keynote lectures to the Residents/ Interns and academic community, presentations and guest lectures at various universities, development of curriculum for medical students etc.
