Overview

Sylvia A. Martinez obtained her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 2007. After completing medical school, she completed an Internal Medicine residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch. After completing her training, she joined the Harborside Medical Group. She currently practices as a primary care provider and also attends on the wards two-three months a year. She also participates as a facilitator for the Practice of Medicine course for medical students.

Global Health

The UTMB Center for Global Health Education (CGHE) is dedicated to the training of tomorrow's global health work force to improve health for the people of Texas and around the world. The department of internal medicine is developing evidence based clinical protocols which will be available in EPIC (as order sets) for use when admitting patients with these diagnoses. Their AIM is to standardize care and decrease length of stay and readmission rates.

Currently available protocols are:

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis Adult, ICU
  • General Medicine Admission

  • MICU/CCU Admission Order Set
  • Oral Analgesic Medicaitons
  • Parenteral Opioids
  • Sepsis, Adult ICU
