Adrienne Scruggs M.D. is an Assistant Professor for the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She is a native of Oklahoma and graduate of Clear Lake High School in Houston, TX. Her educational background includes BS degree in Biology-PreMedicine from Xavier University of Louisiana and medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. She decided to return home to Texas, and completed residency in Internal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. She then served as staff physician at Kelsey-Seybold Clinic and St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital prior to joining UTMB in 2013. She has been recognized by the National Committee for Quality Assurance for providing high-quality, evidence-based care in the areas of Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, and Stroke. She is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, Mary Susan Moore Medical Society, American College of Lifestyle Medicine and Artemis Medical Society.

The department of internal medicine is developing evidence based clinical protocols which will be available in EPIC (as order sets) for use when admitting patients with these diagnoses. Their AIM is to standardize care and decrease length of stay and readmission rates.
