Children's Hospital Wall Project
The Children's Hospital Wall Project was selected as the current Osler Project in 2005. The project's goal is to fill a blank wall on the first floor of the hall between the John Sealy and Children's Hospitals by involving pediatric patients and UTMB students in the activity.
The group chose to create a work of art for the wall, and sought the help of an artist, Julie Weldon. Ms. Weldon decided to create the piece from ceramic tiles painted by pediatric patients. The group distributed individual kits to patients, painted with them, and then assembled these tiles into the final image — a Galveston beach scene.
In 2006, after a year of planning, budgeting, and waiting for approvals, the group began their project, recruiting volunteers and beginning the process of painting, firing, and assembling the final project.
