Dr. Barbara Breier, director of the UTMB Center to Eliminate Health Disparities, delivered the inaugural session of a four-part lunchtime lecture series entitled "Leadership in Primary Health Care: Thinking Globally, Acting Locally" on February 3. Dr. Brier's presentation, "UTMB’s Role in Primary Health Care Leadership Development in Diverse Communities," outlined the goals of her program and provided insightful projections of health expenditures and the growing number of uninsured persons in the United States. Of particular interest was the number of projects and programs at UTMB and in the Galveston community that are addressing this concern.

The lecture series is sponsored by the WHO Center for Nursing and Midwifery Development, the School of Nursing Center for International Health Training, the School of Medicine, and the Office of Community Outreach.
