Staff Interaction

A significant portion of the administrative resident’s time will be
spent interacting with the executive staff. This may be accomplished in
various ways, including attending meetings, working on projects, and
discussing health care issues on a one-on-one basis. It is expected that
each member of the executive staff provides full access, when appropriate,
to his or her meetings and departments. Through this exposure the resident
should fulfill the following objectives:
- To learn the current issues, projects, and activities of each
executive staff member’s areas of responsibility
- To assess the managerial styles of the executive staff members
- To analyze their decision-making processes and discuss the reasons
behind specific decisions with them
- To build an understanding of the professional code of ethics that
guides health care administrators
- To learn of the unique nature and challenges of an academic medical
center
