General Information
Students can view information about specific teaching practices by searching via a variety of methods by clicking on the desired search method on the left side of your screen. Contact information is provided for the local AHEC coordinator should you desire additional information about a specific practice or region. Once you have identified a practice of interest contact the course coordinator for the rotation to schedule the rotation.
Search by Keywords
There is a textbox in the right top corner of this screen. If you enter a keyword and click the "Search" button, you will get all community faculty which meet your search criteria. The keyword could be a city name, specialty or any text. For example, you can enter "diabetes" to get all community faculty who provide care for patients with diabetes.
Clicking on By Community Course will take you to a list of courses that community faculty participate in. Click on the community rotation you are enrolling in and you will be provided with a list of community faculty that teach students for your particular community rotation. Searching by this method will identify practices that will provide you with the learning experiences that will meet the objectives of your community rotation. From the list, you can further refine your search by entering the city, discipline, and/or specialty in the appropriate search boxes at the top of the screen. Click on the Community Faculty #### of your interest to view a more detailed profile of the practice as well as contact information, community information, and housing availability for that particular practice.
Clicking on By Discipline will provide you with the list of disciplines (MD, PA, NP, etc.) of the community faculty. Click on the discipline of your choice for the list of participating practitioners in that discipline. From the list, you can further refine your search by entering the city and/or specialty in the appropriate search boxes at the top of the screen. Click on the Community Faculty #### of your interest to view a more detailed profile of the practice as well as contact information, community information, and housing availability in that particular community.
Clicking on By Specialty will provide you with a list of the specialties (Pediatrics, Family Practice, Internal Medicine, etc.) of the community faculty. Click on the specialty of your choice for the list of participating practitioners in the specialty of that specialty. From the list, you can further refine your search by entering the city and/or discipline in the appropriate search boxes at the top of the screen. Click on the Community Faculty #### of your interest to view a more detailed profile of the practice as well as contact information, community information, and housing availability in that particular community.
This type of search is useful for students who desire to work with special populations. You can search for practice sites that are located in medically underserved areas, health professional shortage areas, etc. Click on the special population of your choice for a list of those practices. Click on the Community Faculty #### of your interest to view a more detailed profile of the practice as well as contact information, community information, and housing availability in that particular community.
The By Region button will take you to a list of counties and cities in Texas. Click on the county or city of your choice for a list of community faculty in that region.
The By Map button will display a map of counties in the East Texas AHEC region. Click on the map over the county of your choice for a list of community faculty in that county.
The process of identifying community faculty and posting the opportunities on this website is on-going. If you are a return visitor to this site, and are interested in viewing sites that have recently been added, click the By Date button. This will take you to a list of community faculty sorted by date that the site was posted on the website. Each site listing has an enrolled date so you will be able to determine if a site is one that was added after your last visit to this website.
