BENEFITS IN BRIEF FOR THE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

Medical coverage is administered through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Inc. UT Select PPO allows you the freedom to choose a provider without coordination through a Primary Care Physician.  It also provides network, out-of-network and out-of area benefits as well as a prescription program with Medco Health.

DENTAL You have the option to elect dental coverage either provided by UT Dental Select PPO or Assurant Dental DMO.

 

VISION CARE is provided through Superior Vision and covers glasses or contacts.
 

Term Life is provided to you free for $10,000 with elected medical coverage. You may purchase additional coverage up to 3x your annual salary, guaranteed issue.  Additional coverage up to 6 times your annual salary is available with evidence of insurability approval. 

DEPENDENT LIFE covers your eligible dependents in increments of $10,000, $25,000 or $50,000. (Evidence of Insurability is required for $25,000 and $50,000 in coverage). Children can be included for $10,000 each child.

ACCIDENTAL DEATH & DISMEMBERMENT is provided to you free for $10,000 with elected medical coverage.  You may purchase additional coverage up to 10x your annual salary. This offers coverage in the event of accidental death and certain bodily injuries that occur as a result of a covered accident.  You may purchase additional coverage for eligible dependents.

SHORT TERM DISABILITY (STD) provides income protection should you become disabled due to sickness or non-occupational injury.  After the required 30-day elimination period is satisfied or after you have exhausted your sick leave, whichever is longer, you will be eligible to receive 60% of your covered salary if your disability claim is approved.

 

 

LONG TERM DISABILITY (LTD) All House Staff are required to participate in the Long-term Disability plan.  Coverage is provided through Paul Revere.  After the 90-day elimination period requirement has been satisfied following a disability, you are eligible to receive 60% of your covered salary. Benefits under the LTD program will be offset by disability benefits received from other sources of income.

LONG TERM CARE provides coverage for necessary services once individuals become incapable of caring for themselves.  It is offered to you, your spouse, adult children (25 years and older), parents, grandparents, parents-in-law and grandparents-in-law by Continental Casualty Company, a subsidiary of CNA.

UT FLEX reduces the amount you pay in Social Security and federal income taxes, via the Internal Revenue Code, Sec. 125, and is used to pay for eligible health care and daycare expenses.

RETIREMENT PLANS
In the
 Teacher Retirement System (TRS) employees contribute 6.4% of salary, and the State of Texas matches 6.58%.  You have a vested right to retirement benefits after 5 years of service.  There are also disability and death and survivor benefits available.

The Optional Retirement Program (ORP) is an alternative retirement plan available to certain faculty members and administrative and professional employees.  Employee contribution is 6.65% of salary, with  state matching of 8.5%.  Vested right to  employer contribution after 1 year and 1 day.

The UTSaver Tax-Sheltered Annuity Plan (TSA) and
the  UTSaver Deferred Compensation Plan (DCP) are Supplemental Retirement Plans available to all employees through pre-tax (TSA and DCP) and after-tax (Roth) contributions from your paycheck.
