2.1       Basic Fire Reporting Procedures

The RACE Concept: 

R   -     Rescue the patient and close the door behind you.

 A   -     Alarm, turn in the alarm, use the alarm pull station, and dial 21211

             and give the following information clearly:                

            -  name and title,

            -  telephone extension,

            -  location,

            -  extent of fire.

C   -     Confine the smoke and fire from all other rooms by closing the      

             doors to the patient areas.

E   -     Extinguish, get an extinguisher to put out the fire.  If you can’t handle the situation, Evacuate, close the door to the fire room and begin moving patients out of the immediate area.

2.2       Arson or Suspected Arson

Prime target areas for arson are:

·         empty patient rooms,

·         closets,

·         storage rooms.

 Be alert to strangers and what they are doing.  Call the UTMB Campus Police if you suspect someone committing arson.
