CHAPTER 5

FIRE SAFETY

3.0 FIRE PREVENTION

3.1  Introduction

3.2  Fire and Safety Orientation

3.1       Introduction

Three elements are necessary to start a fire:

         heat,                                                     fuel        heat

         air,                                                                air

         fuel.

If a fire is under way, removal of one element will bring the fire under control and make it extinguishable.

Fire can result in tragedy.  Although hospital patients expect to safe from the threat of fire, this is not always the case.

3.2       Arson or Suspected Arson

All UTMB personnel associated with health care services or support services are required to attend fire and safety orientation programs and yearly inservice programs.  Refer to Chapter 3 for details.

NOTE  : Be alert!  If you see potential fire hazards, take steps to eliminate or minimize them.
