8.1       Electrical Safety Testing

Clinical Equipment Services will test equipment:

·         upon acquisition, and

·         periodically thereafter. 

Equipment will receive electrical safety testing in accordance with the minimum standards adopted by the Equipment Management Subcommittee.

Inspection intervals will vary according to the use of the equipment.

All equipment that has undergone electrical safety testing will have an appropriate label attached to it indicating its electrical safety certification.

 

8.2       Routine Inspection Preventive Maintenance

The operators of all electrical devices are expected to perform visual and operational checks to ensure good mechanical condition and proper operation each time the device is used.

Equipment used in the hospital, clinics and supporting laboratories shall receive preventive maintenance with supporting documentation.

Equipment directly connected to a patient shall receive periodic preventive maintenance electrical safety testing. 

The manufacturer’s recommendations should always be followed.
