Dr. Wooten is a historian and award-winning author of "The Polio Years in Texas: Battling a Terrifying Unknown" (Texas A&M University Press, 2009). She is also an educator at San Jacinto College and associate for the Houston-based history consulting firm, W. H. Kellar Consulting, LLC.

"Old Red: Pioneering Medical Education," published by the Texas State Historical Association, is her latest book, and much of her research was conducted at the Moody Medical Library. Not only does it describe UTMB’s most venerable building, it also details the university’s crucial role in professionalizing medicine in the Lone Star State.

The book is available for purchase at the UTMB Bookstore. Sponsored by the Moody Medical Library, Texas State Historical Foundation, and Institute for the Medical Humanities
