Education: Teaching the Art and Science of Health Care

UTMB has always been at the forefront of health sciences education in Texas. Ours was the first state-supported medical school in the state. We are home to the oldest nursing school west of the Mississippi and our graduate programs have produced some of the nation’s best scientist.

Throughout our distinguished history, UTMB has educated thousands of men and women who hail from diverse backgrounds. Our current student body is equally diverse. Some follow in their parents’ footsteps in choosing a medical career. Others are the first in their families to have gone to college. But all share a desire to use their gifts, their skills and their knowledge to make a difference in the lives of others.

Whether its distance education technology, sophisticated patient simulation programs, or endowments to recognize faculty who practice and instill patient-centered care, UTMB remains at the forefront of teaching the art and science of health care. At the heart of each education initiative is our commitment to ensuring that future generations of patients are cared for by a highly trained, diverse and compassionate health work force.

Your gift to education can provide essential scholarship support that enables the most talented and committed individuals to enter the health profession, regardless of personal financial means. It will also ensure the university’s ability to attract and retain the kind of exceptional educators who can inspire compassion for others and an appreciation for lifelong learning. And it can help us develop innovative simulators that are critical in allow students to hone their clinical skills. Your gift will directly benefit students, and indirectly benefit patients. But most importantly, your gift will secure a strong future for the art and science of health care.
