The Heritage Council
The Heritage Council is an association of men and women who believe in and support the mission of UTMB and share its values and traditions. Members have made a commitment to ensure that this heritage is continued for future generations of caregivers, researchers and patients.
Membership in The Heritage Council is open to anyone making a commitment to support UTMB programs of educational, research or clinical excellence through a will, life insurance policy or other planned-giving instrumental. In addition, certain gifts to named endowments made prior to September 2004 qualify the contributor for Heritage Council membership. Although the university wishes to appropriately thank those benefactors who have made planned gifts, the amount of the gift does not need to be publicly revealed. We will respect the wishes of those show want to remain anonymous.
Notifying UTMB of an intended gift will allow us to plan better for future services. It will also allow us to acknowledge the gift today and recognize the donor in an appropriate manner.
There are a number of options available for those wishing to make a deferred gift. Some programs make it possible for a donor to make a significant gift while receiving life income and/or tax benefits. Some of these options include:
- A will/bequest designating UTMB to receive a percentage of the estate, receive a specified amount or serve as a residual beneficiary
- Gifts of life insurance naming UTMB as owner and/or a beneficiary of the policy
- Gift of residence or farm while retaining a life interest
- Charitable gift annuity and charitable remainder trust, which provide life income for the contributor
- Charitable lead trust, in which trust income fund the gift to UTMB and trust assets revert to the contributor, the beneficiary or estate
