Campaign Leadership
A Message from the Campaign Chair

Fred C. Burns, Campaign Executive ChairWhen Jack Stobo approached me to take the volunteer reins of UTMB’s Timeless Values, Pioneering Solutions campaign, I knew this was an undertaking that hit squarely on one of our state’s most urgent priorities—improving health care and health sciences education. For years, UTMB has bee a prominent thread in the fabric of health care in Texas. With the campaign, we have the opportunity to see a UTMB even more vital.

But my reason for accepting Dr. Stobo’s challenge was more personal. Pat and I have long turned to the university in times of need. We’ve- called upon its doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to help us navigate some of the difficult moments of our lives. Like so many, we’ve invested our hope in their caring and expertise.

UTMB is an institution that lives its values.

Take a look at virtually every corner of the UTMB campus and you’ll find the evidence of that commitment. Its hospitals and clinics are a place where lives are transformed and hope is restored. Its research labs are an incubator for powerful new ideas on improving human health. And its classrooms are a forge where tomorrow’s health care leaders are being made.

With the campaign, UTMB reaffirms those values. It strives to make them as relevant today as they were the moment the university opened it doors in 1891.

My hope is that you’ll join us in this remarkable philanthropic enterprise—bold in its goals, deliberate in its ambitions and far-reaching in its implications. Ours is an investment in the future, the dividends of which promise to repay society many times over.
