Dr.
Carlton is a native of upstate New York. Upon graduating from Notre Dame
High School in Elmira, NY, she attended Mary Washington College in
Fredericksburg, VA, where she received a B.S. degree in Biology. She then
entered graduate school at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond and
was awarded a Ph.D. in Anatomy in 1982. Dr. Carlton was awarded an NIH
postdoctoral fellowship and moved to Galveston, TX to work with William D.
Willis as a postdoctoral trainee at UTMB. She left Galveston to work a
second postdoctoral position with Dr. Carole LaMotte at Yale University in
New Haven, CT in 1985. She returned to Galveston and joined the faculty in
the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience and has called Texas
"home" ever since.
