We are working with James Tour's group at Rice University to examine how single-walled carbon fiber nanotubes (SWNT) may be used as materials for engineering electrical and optical interfaces for neurons. The group at Rice has developed simple and effective methods to introduce functional groups on single nanotubes. This functionalization can be used not only to alter the contact between nanotubes and neurons, but to efficiently sort nanotubes based on their electrical properties. |
