The Center to Eliminate Health Disparities supports research, training and interventions to address the causes of health inequities in society, developing new models for understanding and eliminating health disparities, and promoting policy change to improve population health. The CEHD's work is currently focused on two major projects:

The Galveston Health in All Policies (G-HAP) Project was born of the local devastation caused by Hurricane Ike, and a recognition that population health and human resiliency could be greatly strengthened by adopting a Health in All Policies approach. The CEHD has been working with local governmental and community organizations for the past two years to infuse pro-health planning to disaster recovery efforts as well as other local planning efforts.

Port Arthur, Texas, represents an Environmental Justice community that is struggling to protect residents from the impact of surrounding industry. The CEHD is working with the Community In-Power Development Association Inc. (CIDA), a local community based organization, to better communicate the health risks that residents face. The Port Arthur Cumulative Risk Project is using state-of-the-art science to help redefine our understanding of the health and other human challenges such communities face.
