UTMB Global Health Training Program

The CEHD is working with the UTMB WHO /PAHO Collaborating Center for Training in International Health (CTIH) and the Institute for Human Infections and Immunity (IHII) to develop a Global Health Program at UTMB. The program is structured around key educational principles including inter-professional training, service-learning, inter-disciplinary training, and values-based learning environments.

The Program will provide global health training for students at all four UTMB schools through courses, international and domestic field training, and other activities. Led by the CTIH, the program is linking with other health professions schools in the UT System to develop a cross-campus training initiative that stretches across Texas and beyond.

Dr. Nolen, Acting Director of the Center to Eliminate Health Disparities, is also Associate Director of the Center for Training in International Health. CEHD personnel will be supporting development of the Global Health Program through

  • program development and strategic planning,
  • curriculum development on topics such as health inequities, social determinants of health, policy and economics, globalization and health, and health systems development,
  • expansion of international and domestic field training sites, and
  • program implementation.

For more information, contact Dr. Alexandra Nolen. Check for updates on the Program’s development at the CTIH website.
