Program Areas Projects that the CEHD is currently working on can largely be grouped into 4 program areas:
Many projects span more than one program area, but for simplicity we have assigned them a primary category. Research, training and capacity building, and action and interventions cross-cut the program areas and projects. Because we recognize that knowledge on how to reduce health disparities is not sufficient to create change in society, we focus on research with implications for policy and for improving implementation of work. Training and capacity building are necessary to create a health professionals work force prepared to deal with the challenge of meeting health goals both in the US and abroad, including unsustainable spending on tertiary care models and the need for dramatic increases in effective preventive care as well as policies that protect the public’s health. Our approach is also action based both in order to effectively contribute to improve health equity in society and also in recognition of the need for demonstrations of how to enact findings from research and training. For instance, a number of research and training projects also have an explicit action component, such as through active communication of findings to decision-makers, thereby leading to policy processes.
