Texas Health Care Professions' Practice Acts

To know if a specific type of health care provider is permitted by law and rule to accept orders or accept referrals from an APN, the APN should look in that specific provider's practice act. The table below contains some of the most common references used by APNs. However, APNs should also note that the health care professional may still refuse a referral/order from non-physician providers based on the fact that the insurance payer may only reimburse the service when ordered by a physician.
