Resource Departments

Information Services

Information Services provides information resources and technologies to all entities of the University of Texas Medical Branch.
Information Services provides project management, consulting, technical, and administrative support to its customers for the planning, development, procurement, implementation, operation, maintenance, and enhancement processes information resource management.

Services provided include:

Supports Administrative Systems applications in the following areas for Academic, Research, Human Resources, Payroll, Procurement, Asset Management, Inventory, and Finance.

Clinical Administrative Systems supports professional billing, technical billing, patient management, resources scheduling, inpatient admissions, outpatient registrations, and charge automation.

Clinical Departmental systems supports inpatient and outpatient pharmacy, laboratory services, clinical imaging (PACs) and radiology information systems, emergency department, and radiation oncology among others. Support activities will include Physician Order Entry and systems and data integration services with UTMB’s Hospital Information Systems.

Electronic Medical Records area provides support for existing EMRs as well as the transition to a common, compatible, institutional EMR system.

Decision Support is charged with decision support capabilities, exploring trends, reporting, forecasting, and market analysis.

Information Resources Security administers UTMB Information Security program, develops and recommends security policies and practice standards, monitors the effectiveness of defined controls, oversees for computer incident response, and reports on regulatory and policy compliance.

Training provides training services including course development for Clinical applications and institutional compliance.

Web area is charged with researching, designing, implementing, and supporting all web applications, creating and maintaining web infrastructure, as well as, assisting UTMB departments in Web information development and structure.

Operations area is responsible with maintaining a secure and stable operating technology infrastructure, while managing an increasingly diverse portfolio of services and service providers.

Access Management which includes computing system access management, smart card and LDAP implementation.

Data Center Services which include data center management, standards, change management, service monitoring and incident notification/reporting.

Desktop Services which include desktop support, helpdesk, and replacement/refresh of computing equipment such as PC and Macintosh.

Network, Video and Security Operations which include data network installation and support, video operations, and information security operations such as intrusion and vulnerability detection.

Technical Services includes the installation and support of operation software for a variety of competing platforms including mainframe, web, file, print, application servers, and desktop.

Voice Operations supports all voice services including telephone system, voice mail, operator services, system design, and voice technical operations.
