Institutional Compliance

As UTMB pursues its mission, UTMB is committed to conducting all of our business in an ethical and law-abiding fashion. UTMB fosters a business culture that builds and promotes compliance consciousness and encourages employees and faculty to conduct all University business with honesty and integrity. Our commitment to compliance includes: communicating to all employees, faculty, consultants, and independent contractors clear business ethical guidelines to follow; providing general and specific training and education regarding applicable laws, regulations, and policies; and providing monitoring and oversight to help ensure that we meet our compliance commitment. We promote open and free communication regarding our ethical and compliance standards and provide a work environment free of retaliation.

The principal functions of the UTMB Office of Institutional Compliance are as follows:

• To perform a risk assessment of UTMB’s compliance issues.
• To monitor the implementation of UTMB’s compliance plan.
• To provide education and training regarding the compliance program and applicable laws    and regulations that affect UTMB.
• To communicate instances of noncompliance to the UTMB Institutional Compliance Officer    and Institutional Compliance Committee.
• To follow up on compliance findings to ensure that appropriate correct action has been    taken.
• To continuously assess the effectiveness of compliance activities.
