Resource Departments

Risk Management

The department of Risk Management provides services and activities for faculty and staff designed to minimize the adverse effects of loss upon the institution’s human, physical, and financial assets. Specific services include:

• Providing educational programs and written materials as mandated by UT System, as    sponsored by the Professional Liability Review Committee (PLRAC), or at the request of a    UTMB area/department
• Serving as liaison to the UT System Office of General Counsel for required reporting of    events, and for providing supplementary reports on incidents, claims and lawsuits to    Counsel and the PLRC, as required by the UT System and by UTMB policy
• Collecting trend data for the purpose of risk prevention under the direction of, and for    reporting to, the Quality of Care Committee
• Providing advice and support to health care providers on specific situations, as well as for    planning purposes
• Implementing UTMB procedures for distribution of, and response to, Medical Recall notices
• Implementing UTMB procedures for reporting under the Safe Medical Device Act, as    directed by the PLRC
• Performing risk assessment activities with departments and facilities both on and off-site
