Our Values
Core values are an organization's small but fundamental set of
guiding principles. They characterize what an organization does,
not how it operates or what it wants to be. UTMB's core values
are:
- Service:
We have a burning commitment to serve the health needs of
all Texans, regardless of their ability to pay.
- Diversity:
We are committed to employing and to educating a health
care work force whose diversity mirrors the population they
serve.
- Innovation:
We always think of new ways to do things better.
- Community:
We are committed to making our community a better place
to live and work.
- Education:
We are committed to life-long learning for our students,
staff, faculty and community.

Our Vision
Professionalism
All faculty, staff, and students understand that they have
a responsibility to act as accountable professionals. Professionalism
means putting the needs of those we serve above our own through
accountability, compassion, integrity, and respect. Decisions
support our core values and purpose and are made in a timely fashion
with institutional dialogue.
Healing Environment
Patients are cared for in an environment which is patient
focused, compassionate, and service oriented. The patient care
experience includes meeting patient needs not only physically,
but also mentally, emotionally, culturally, spiritually, and socially.
Institutional Excellence
Programs that represent UTMB's priorities are in the top 25
percent nationally, with a reputation for quality and innovation.
We are a creator of new paradigms for research, education, and
clinical service, built on what we do best, seeing new opportunities
on the horizon.
Financial Management
UTMB is financially sound with an operating margin to fund
capital, depreciation, and new programs. There is a shared understanding
of resource allocation and meaningful participation in the budget
process.
Strategic Partnerships
UTMB is a model for how a health science university partners
with the community. Strategic partnerships exist in research,
education, and clinical care to include UT components and other
health care entities.
