Q |
As
a nurse, I am also qualified to work for a local home health
agency. Does this employment conflict with my UTMB job? |
A |
Not necessarily;
however, you are strictly prohibited from steering UTMB
patients to the home health agency where you are employed.
|
Q |
I
am an accountant for a department at UTMB. I also do private
bookkeeping in my off time. I am presently doing bookkeeping
for a catering firm that does business for UTMB, and occasionally
with my department. Is there anything wrong with this? |
A |
Yes. You may
not accept employment from any outside firm that also does
business with UTMB. In this case, it would be possible for
you to allow the catering firm to bill your own UTMB department
in excess and then you could pay that invoice. |
Q |
I
have been asked to work on my weekends off for a vendor
that provides services to UTMB. Can I accept the extra work? |
A |
Possibly. Prior
to accepting any employment outside of UTMB you should receive
permission from your supervisor and the Human Resources
Department. The Human Resources Department will determine
if this employment outside of UTMB, with a UTMB vendor,
would create a conflict of interest. |
Q |
May I work
at the Gulf Greyhound Park Dog Track at times when I am
not on my normal work hours at UTMB? |
A |
Yes. Gulf Greyhound Park
does not present a conflict of interest for UTMB employees.
If UTMB is your permanent full-time or part-time employer,
you need to be certain with your supervisor that employment
at Gulf Greyhound Park will not interfere with your UTMB
scheduled work times. Your supervisor may require that you
work specific hours at UTMB. |
|
| Outside
employment. As a UTMB employee your first job
responsibility is to UTMB. Outside professional commitments should
not interfere with a faculty or staff members responsibility
to UTMB. There are numerous regulations governing outside employment.
They cover paid employment and volunteer service, such as with
a not-for-profit organization or other governmental entity. Generally,
these regulations prohibit employees from outside employment that
would cause a conflict of interest, reduce your ability to perform
your job, or bring discredit to UTMB. If you are considering any
form of outside employment or currently hold outside employment,
contact your department administrator or Human Resources Department
to determine the regulations that apply to your particular situation.
The Regents Rules Part One, Chapter III, Section 13 specifically
addresses the outside employment issue, and it may be obtained
via the Internet at http://www3.utsystem.edu/bor/.
The UTMB Code of Ethics, IHOP policy 2.27.7, may be accessed via
the Internet at http://www.utmb.edu/policy/ihop/.
UTMB full-time employees must receive permission from their UTMB
home department and the Human Resources Department before accepting
employment or independent contractor status of any type from another
State of Texas agency or any vendor who provides services to UTMB.
The Human Resources Department will determine whether this possible
employment might create a conflict of interest situation for the
employee or UTMB.
