| Drug
and weapon-free workplace. UTMB is committed to a drug-free
and weapon-free environment. Employees reporting to work with
a weapon, under the influence of an illegal drug or alcohol, or
using, possessing, or selling alcohol or illegal drugs during
work hours or on UTMB property may be terminated. The use of alcoholic
beverages is prohibited in and on UTMB facilities. However, the
President may waive this prohibition with respect to any event
sponsored by UTMB. The UTMB IHOP policy 2.6.1, Use of UTMB Facilities,
may be accessed via the Internet at http://www.utmb.edu/policy/ihop/
You should report anyone who may be carrying a weapon or possessing,
using, or selling alcohol or illegal drugs to the UTMB Police
at (409) 772-1111.
Employees are required to notify the Employee Relations Office
in Human Resources (HR) within five (5) calendar days of a conviction
for an offense involving a controlled substance in the workplace.
Failure to provide notification to HR will result in disciplinary
action, including termination or participation in and satisfactory
completion of an approved rehabilitation program as a condition
of continued employment.
Faculty,
fellows, residents, and other employees. The unlawful
use, possession, or distribution of drugs or alcohol may result
in a penalty of disciplinary probation, demotion, suspension without
pay, or termination of employment, depending upon the circumstances.
At the discretion of the university, the individual may be referred
to the Employee Assistance Program and/or may be required to participate
in, and satisfactorily complete, an approved rehabilitation program
as a condition of continued employment.
Students.
Penalties that may be imposed for conduct related to the unlawful
use, possession, or distribution of alcohol or drugs that are
prohibited by state, federal, or local law include disciplinary
probation, payment for damage to or misappropriation of property,
suspension of rights and privileges, suspension of a specified
period of time, expulsion, or such other penalty as may be deemed
appropriate under the circumstances. At the discretion of the
university, a student, resident, or fellow may be required to
participate in, and satisfactorily complete, an approved rehabilitation
program as a condition of continued enrollment in a training program.
Federal
grants and contracts criminal offense reporting. Federal
law requires that UTMB must report drug- and alcohol-related convictions
of UTMB employees paid from federal grants or contracts to the
federal awarding agency.

employee orientation program. Do they need any safety training
beyond that? |

Possibly. The Texas Hazard
Communication Act requires that employees working with hazardous
chemicals receive chemical specific training before beginning
work. In addition, other regulations, policies, and guidelines
may require specific types of safety training. Contract
