Texas Gas Service has begun mobilizing for the installation of a natural gas line that will run from 59th Street and Harborside Drive to Holiday Drive (4th Street). Actual construction work started on Tuesday, May 26th, as permitted by TxDOT, the Texas Department of Transportation. The working hours for the contractors will be 5 days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Construction of the new pipeline has a target completion date of October 2015.
Upon completion of the project, Texas Gas Service will maintain the four-mile, 8” pipeline that will provide additional natural gas service and energy capacity to UTMB. At this time, there are no planned service outages to customers during construction. The project will impact vehicular traffic from 59th Street to Holiday Drive (4th Street) on Harborside Drive and Old Port Industrial Road. Harborside Drive and Old Port Industrial Road are expected to have single lane closures in various locations. Some cross street access off Harborside Drive will be closed periodically.
Please anticipate vehicular traffic delays to begin on Tuesday, May 26th, at 7 a.m.
Texas Gas will work closely with the City of Galveston and the Port of Galveston to minimize any potential traffic concerns. As the project progresses, periodic updates will be posted on the City of Galveston website, social media pages, and Channel 16 as well as the Texas Gas Service website and social media pages.
