Research Building 17

Project at a Glance

Project Objective: Research Expansion
Start Date: August 2003
Anticipated Completion*: December 2004
Construction Impact: TBD

Project Description: Construction of a large new multi-story building to be used to house research activities. See image below. Will be bounded by Harborside to the north, Mary Moody Northen Pavilion to the east.

Exterior complete
Building 17 is on Harborside Dr. at 11th St. The exterior of the building is complete. Currently, four of the five floors interior are complete and are steadily being occupied by researchers. The other floor is “shelled out” (basic infrastructure is in place) — it will be built out according to the needs of the scientists who'll be in the space, and occupied as it's completed and moves are scheduled.

CONSTRUCTION ADVISORY:
Road closure planned beginning Monday, Aug. 18, 2003

Beginning Monday, a section of 11th Street between Strand and Harborside Drive will be closed to all traffic. Crews will be setting up a construction perimeter for a research expansion project at 1108 Strand. (The project was discussed at the November ’02 UTMB Town Meeting.) The section to close runs between the Mary Moody Northen Pavilion and 1108 Strand; it will remain closed into next year. See road closure map, below.
