UTMB Central Campus Improvements &
Galveston National Laboratory
Nov. 29, 2005: Children’s Hospital
entrance to reopen Dec. 1
Ninth St. Employee Drop-off expected to relieve some of the crowding at main
entrance
The west entrance to Children’s Hospital, closed since late
July for work on utilities and infrastructure, will reopen on Thursday, Dec. 1.
Workers have completed the connection of steam and chilled water lines, as the
new Galveston National Laboratory
continues to take shape.
The west entrance to the Clinical Sciences Building,
reopened to pedestrians during the Children’s Hospital entrance closure, will
remain open after Dec 1. The south entrance to University Hospital Clinics will
remain closed. Protective tunnels—meant to keep dust out of clinical areas and
for pedestrian convenience and safety—will remain in place at the entrances to
Children’s Hospital and Clinical Sciences. (See map below.)
With the reopening of the Children’s Hospital entrance,
traffic planners and campus administrators remind staff, faculty and contractors
of the new Ninth Street Employee Drop-off, perfect for easy curbside access to
the central campus and the clinical care complex. Employee use of the new
drop-off will ease peak-hour congestion at the main entrance to John Sealy
Hospital, which remains the primary pick-up and drop-off point for patients and
visitors.
We thank you for your patience and support during this
significant but necessary closure; we’re happy to make it available to you once
again.

closure of Ninth Street to vehicles in order to comply with federal security and
safety requirements for facilities
such as UTMB’s Biosafety Level 4 Laboratory.
* Please remember that
construction timetables are subject to variables such as weather. The university
and its contractors are always motivated to complete projects quickly, safely,
properly and with minimal disruption. We always appreciate your patience and
understanding as we work to build a better UTMB.
