DR. COURTNEY M. TOWNSEND, JR. RECEIVES AWARDS
Courtney M. Townsend, Jr., M.D., Professor and Chair, Department of Surgery, and the John Woods Harris Distinguished Chair in Surgery, is the recent recipient of the following awards:
The "Outstanding Achievement Award for the Recruitment and Retention of Underrepresented Faculty" was presented to Dr. Townsend by Dr. Cecilia Romero, Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine, and Chair of the Core Committee for the Support of Underrepresented Ethnic Groups, at the Town Meeting held on July 21, 2004. This newly established award recognizes an individual who represents outstanding leadership in the recruitment and retention of underrepresented faculty members.
The "Honorary Member Award" will be presented to Dr. Townsend at the Association of Women Surgeons (AWS) Fall Conference in October. The AWS Foundation presents this award annually to those who are supportive of women surgeons and the goals of the organization.
