INTRODUCTION, FORMATION AND CHARGE OF THE
COMMITTEE, SUMMARY OF TASKS UNDERTAKEN In
early 1997 the University of Texas System requested that each University
component provide an Annual Report on Human Resources.
Part of this request was for the formation of committees on the
advancement of minorities and women at each of the system institutions.
The Core Committee’s charge was to assess the degree of
fairness, equity, diversity and collegiality for women in academia and
administration at UTMB and to recommend changes when inequities were
identified. This is a
summary of the committee's annual report to the President and the
Director of Affirmative Action. The
Core Committee's methodology to review the current status of women
faculty at UTMB included an assessment of:
the representation of women and minorities on the UTMB campus by
school and rank; promotions and tenure processes in each of the three
schools (SOM, SAHS, SON); a campus survey of faculty attitudes and
experiences; and a salary equity study. <
