UTMB is one of the few places in the country that offers the combined pathway in Dermatology and Pediatrics. Currently accepting applicants every other year, this program allows a resident the opportunity to be board certified in both Dermatology and Pediatrics upon completion of the 5 year curriculum.

In addition to assisting in faculty clinics and his/her own resident continuity clinic, each resident’s experience will include the following specialty rotations:

Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) Clinic (Tuesday)
39th Street Clinic in Galveston (Wednesday)
Texas City and Clear Lake Clinics (Thursday)
Cosmetic Clinic (Friday for four months)
Second Year Six months of:

Mohs Surgery Service
Pediatric Dermatology (Friday)
Third Year Texas Department of Criminal Justice clinic (Tuesday)
TDCJ Telemedicine Clinic (twice a month)
Geriatric Dermatology Clinic in Sante Fe, Texas (once a month)
Chief Resident Administrative Duties (6 months)
Dermatopathology Read-Out (6 months)
Electives Third year residents may enroll in a two-week off-campus elective that will enable them to acquire skills not offered by the UTMB Dermatology Residency Program. After completing the off-campus elective, senior residents must make a departmental presentation about their experience.

- General Dermatology Textbook Conference (Wednesday AM)
- Grand Rounds (patient unknowns or special guest speakers) every Friday morning
- Journal Club (JAAD, Archives of Dermatology, and Dermatologic Surgery) every Friday at noon
Other Conferences:
- Houston Dermatological Society (monthly, attended by all residents)
- Texas Dermatological Society (twice-annually, attended by first-year residents)
- American Academy of Dermatology (annually, attended by all residents except one rotating first and second year resident)
- Pacific Dermatologic Association (annually, attended by one 3rd-year resident)
- Society for Pediatric Dermatology (annually, attended by one 3rd-year resident)
- In addition, every 3rd-year resident may attend a meeting of their choice
Residents are encouraged to submit abstracts and/or presentations to all meetings attended.
