Clinical Services

NB-UVB, PUVA

Our patients are able to benefit from the availability in our clinics of Narrow Band UVB (NB-UVB) treatment.  Unlike other forms of light treatment, such as regular tanning beds, the NB-UVB emits only a specific band of the UV range (311nm).  This optimizes the therapeutic response to diseases such as psoriasis, vitiligo, pruritus (itching), eczema, mycosis fungoides, while minimizing the risks of exposure to UV light.

Other treatment options include UVA light therapy, which is often combined with a photosensitizer, such as psoralen (PUVA).  This therapy is more complicated and has more potential side effects, but may be beneficial for diseases that are deeper in the skin such as morphea profundus.  Both the NB-UVB and the PUVA treatments require a consultation with one of our physicians, and well as a follow-up appointment every three months while on treatment.
