Make the World a Better Place We need to make the world a better place, because now it is more of a disgrace. We’ve learnt to hate and throw out fate, so is it already too late? With war raging on the fields and in our homes, we forget what life is really like. To live and let live has become all but a myth, and our trust went down the drain. Just do what you can, live life to help others and never forget what your goal is today. - Lee P., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX If the Grass Were a Little Greener If the grass were a little greener, The air a little crisper, The water a little cleaner, Do you think the world would be a better place? If society were a little less independent, And a little more of a team, If the words people use were a little more like compliments, And a less like insults, Do you think the world would be a better place? If the wars were all over, The starving all fed and full, And pollution stopped spreading, I think the world would be a better place. So come with me, To that place, Where the grass is greener. - Isabel, age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX What would the world be like if everyone got a hello in the morning? What would the world be like if everyone said a compliment a day? And what would the world be like if everyone thought about another for a moment? It would be a world without hate. - Taylor, age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX You may be 1 person in the world. But that 1 is big. - Barbara B., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX “Accomplishments have no boundaries for hate, don’t let that stop you from completing your goal.” - David D., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Man has no color, gender, or religion. The world belongs to everyone. - Jeremy H., age 13, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX To be peaceful is to be happy. - Katie Jane M., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX “It is okay, you can think things through before doing them.” “Love all…” - Jessica R., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX People are not too big or too smart. They are not too small or too large. You are perfect just the way you are, and if you have to find fault in someone else, then you must first find an even bigger fault in yourself. - Katy R., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX let’s finish putting the pieces together – find the missing PEACE - Viena C., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Don’t let the ambition of others interfere with your ambition. - Andrew H., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX The ghost of Christmas past does not exist; your conscience however does. - Curran K., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Hate builds barriers, but love will always break through. - Allie L., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Making the World a Better Place I want to make the world a better place. I want to be able to change a certain face. Why can’t we change people who don’t care? Why can’t the world be fairer? If the world spins in the direction of hate … If we could turn around and change our fate…. Would we? - Claudia W. , grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Making Our World Better I think that there are a million ways to make the world better. And they really don’t include recycling and protecting the rainforests. Even though these are really good ideas, they are things you do everyday. Maybe you can stop using so much energy or start exercising more. Shut off things you don’t use or make use of things around the house. Start helping the environment by planting trees or cleaning up the bayou or park. That is making our world better. Amanda S. , grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX A little goes a long way. Do something small like recycling a bottle or taking a shorter shower. Together we can make a big difference! It’s clichÈ because everyone always says it because it’s true. Size has no ratio to power. It may not seem like a lot, but it’s better than nothing. Do your part, conserve, become a better person. We all have responsibilities. Now take part in yours. - Linda, age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX If one person can make a huge difference, how much of a difference can the world make? - Kelly M., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Being young is not a flaw. The idea that a young person “can’t” is. - Abbie P., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Ways to Love the World Hate crimes are born from misunderstanding. When you see someone different from you, say hi and smile. It will make a difference in their day. The variety in this world is amazing and we should embrace it. Celebrate other cultures; eat their food. Take action and unite our world as a happy community. Take a trip to another country. The experience will be “involvidable” (unforgettable en Espanol). Be an angel of peace and protest appropriately if you disagree with something. - Amy S., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX When hate is brought upon us we can work together to create a stronger force of love. Love beats hate any day. - Cecily R., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX If we all work together, we can achieve goals that one person alone couldn’t achieve, even if she tried. - Heidi T., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX If you live your life to your own expectations, then you will always be content with your life. - Wendie A., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Making the World a Better Place We shall love one another Cherish one another Take care of one another Because we area all equal As ONE Love thy friend and neighbor Because you never know when They’ll be gone Change the world and Become ONE - Hasannah M. age 13, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Making our world a better place is not an easy task. Hate, horror, vengeance, and death fill our world every day. Love, excitement, and life also fill our world. But why can’t we all just get along? We need to forgive and forget. Put the past behind us. Live and let live. “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive.” (- Dalai Lama) We have to forget terrorism, forget war, forget hate. Make friends and not enemies. This is how we can make the world a better place. - Matt L., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Making our world better … … doesn’t mean changing the people who dwell on it, but showing those who don’t understand a better way. This means we need to stop focusing on those who aren’t good people, but how we can make them better. - Brandt H., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Don’t close your door on the world. Keep your head in the game and your door open to new ideas. - Paul G., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Why spend your life hating someone, when you can love and heal the world? - Edie S., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX “Never say never when you can make it better. Always stay close and work together. This world is a diamond that everyone has to take care of …” - Johanna C., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX There is never a punishment for being positive, kind, and ignoring the hate in the world. - Liz G., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Making our world a better place could be much easier if we just got along without hate. - Rubi B., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Reason for Being Everyone was brought in this world for a reason. Your reason could be anything. To protect, to live for, to bring, to love, and to save. Everyone has a reason but it is up to you to fulfill that reason. - Omar A., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX In our world today, we face many big problems including disease and poverty that cause misery for millions of people, if not billions. As a society we should take increased action to help those in need. We should encourage people to donate money or give personal aid. This way we can make our future a promising one. - Connie H., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX The human body is like a shell. You won’t be able to see what’s actually on the inside unless you crack it open. - Kyzia W., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX One smile makes the world a better place. - Sarah B., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX “Life isn’t measured by how many times you smile, but by how many times you make others smile within.” - Caroline B., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX “Everyone is capable of hate, but choosing not to, is something each person has to decide.” - Thomas C., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX The future role models of the world are people who are colorblind. - Alex H., age 13, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Make the world a better place … put a smile on your face! - Kali L., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Hate is one of the most destructive forces in our society, but can be counteracted with forethought. - Anson L., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX If one person can’t change the world, they can at least make a dent. - Becca S., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX If you can’t improve the world, improve something about yourself. It might not seem like it helps at all, but doing that is what we need t make the world better. - Camilla S., grade 8, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX “The opposite of hate is not love, but rather understanding.” - Chelsea S., age 13, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX After fifty thousand years how can we not embrace, much less accept, each other’s differences? - Marina W., age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX N iceO ptimisticP eaceL oveA nti-hateC aringE qualityF reedomO verjoyedR espectH appinessA ttitudeT ruthE mpathy- Becca R., age 13, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Imagine Twenty years from now everyone hovering around in flying cars. Schools could possibly be in the sky. Our future schools could look very different. However, every year there are school shootings where innocent children who are just trying to get an education die or are seriously and mentally disturbed for life. My point is this – it won’t end until we do something about it; some action that would end it all because everyone needs an education. How can we get one with the constant fear of violence. Imagine the possibilities of a world where school violence is a thing of the past, and act. - Michael, age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX Time The passage of time can be hard, But at the same time, It can make you strong. Time can be slow, But at the same time can hurt When it passes and it means you lose something Or someone. Time can make you old, But can also make you young. Time is very valuable. You should treasure it For what it’s worth. - Francisco, age 15, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX We’re All the Same We’re all the same, But different colors. We’re all the same, But different cultures. We’re all the same, But different races. We’re all the same, But different nationalities. We’re all the same, But different personalities. We’re all the same, But different height. We’re all the same, But different forms. No matter what we are, Or what we do We’re still and always will be… People. - Lupe, age 14, Lanier Middle School, Houston, TX |
