Poll
Tax: American G.I. Forum Resolution
Even after World War II, Texas was one of the few states to retain the poll
tax as a prerequisite for voting. The G.I. Forum campaigned against the use of
property as a qualification for voting, neighborhood clauses in real estate
contracts and restrictions on owning property.

"La Marcha" for fair labor practices
"La Marcha" or "the march" was to protest the hiring and employment
practices that excluded Mexican Americans by design or omission. The rights and
practices won by most white unions in the 1930’s did not include the large
number of Mexican Americans agricultural laborers. Most unions did not allow
Mexican Americans to join, much less hold office in the union. Dr. Garcia and the
Forum requested a Fair Employment Practices Commission.
