Code 99 Workshop & Conscious (Moderate) Sedation

Course Dates:

October 10th

The class is 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Please arrive 5-10 minutes early, late arrivals will not be permitted and must reschedule. 

Introduction:

This  workshop is designed to prepare the healthcare worker to provide basic and advanced resuscitation procedures to all patients experiencing respiratory distress or cardiopulmonary arrest.

  Workshop objectives:               

  • Review Code 99 Policy

  • Review Moderate Sedation Policy

  • Recall the numbers to call in a “CODE” situation

  • Identify the roles of code team members

  • Review basic life support/CPR/defibrillation (Automated External Defibrillation)

  • State rationale for defibrillation

  • Demonstrate airway management - use of O2 delivery devices, airway adjuncts, bag-valve-mask

  • Describe desired effects of emergency drugs

  • Locate the emergency equipment within the blue code cart

  • Discuss documentation of a Code 99 and practice on Resuscitation Flow Sheet

  • Review Common code Rhythms

  • Participate in a mock code

                 

Prerequisites and Renewals :

  • Course participants must be proficient in CPR.

  • Suggested annual renewal.

 

Registration and Cost:

Call (409) 772-2823 or come by the lab in person to register. There is no charge for UTMB employees. A minimum class size is required.

 

 

  The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course material, do not represent income to the Association.
