Direct & Institutional Loan Exit Instructions

As a recipient of student financial aid while attending UTMB Galveston, you are required to complete a financial aid exit interview if your attending status changes to any of the following: Less than half time, Leave of Absence that exceeds 120 calendar days, dismissal, withdrawal or graduation. Additional information may be found on our Enrollment Services-Alumni web page. (If you are not graduating or did not receive Direct Loans while at UTMB, please email us)

An Exit Hold may been placed on your academic record, preventing you from obtaining university services such as academic transcripts and release of your diploma(s), as well as other university services. This hold will remain in place until you properly complete the student financial aid exit interview.

Please note you will need reference information that includes your spouse, parents, expected employer and 3 personal references. If your parents are deceased, please provide a next of kin. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL. If you do not provide the information or if any of the requested information is missing, your exit interview will be considered incomplete.

Questions regarding your Direct Loan loans should be directed to American Student Assistance or Student Loans.gov.

Step 1: Logon to the National Student Loan Database for Students at http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/. This site requires the user to have their Department of Education PIN. Click on 'Financial Aid Review' to print your loan information (or call 1-800-730-8913). Complete the Exit Counseling, follow the on-screen instructions until complete, and we will receive notification when your exit is complete.

Step 2: Go to the Financial Counselor website, look for the Exit Interview link, then follow the on-screen instructions until complete. We will receive notification when your exit is complete, and remove the hold.

Step 3: For information on loan consolidation, visit the Federal Direct Consolidation Loan (www.loanconsolidation.ed.gov). Print your loan information (or call 1-888-877-7658). You may also access applicable forms related to your DL by clicking on the “Forms & Publications” link.
