FINANCIAL AID AT UTMB
When you are accepted for admission into a program at UTMB, you become eligible to apply for financial aid. Students who will be applying for financial aid should file a need analysis form as soon as possible after January 1. Students who file the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA must be sure to include each institution you want to receive the results, i.e. The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, code 013976, Galveston, Texas.
POINTERS
Do not use estimated income when completing the FAFSA or Renewal FAFSA. Fill out the form using real figures from your tax return. All students who will be applying for financial aid should complete their FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA by going to http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.
You will need a Personal Identification Number (or PIN) to electronically sign your application. If you do not have, or cannot remember your PIN, you can obtain one at http://www.pin.ed.gov.
For those of you who wish to be considered for Institutional Scholarships and Grants, which means you are required to provide parental data on the FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA, your parents can also obtain a PIN to electronically sign your FAFSA/Renewal FAFSA. Include yourself in your parent's household and complete Step Four of the Renewal FAFSA whether or not they are providing you any financial support. Please note that this information is used solely for the purpose of determining eligibility for institutional funds which are awarded to our students in greatest need of assistance. As an independent student the parental information will not affect the overall amount of aid you are awarded. It may only allow you to receive better types of aid
It is very import to review your responses to the following questions on your Renewal FAFSA as it will impact your Financial Aid eligibility:
Once we have received the results of your Student Aid Report (SAR) and based on your responses, you may be required to submit Supplemental Data so that we may provide additional funding.
Please note until we receive your Supplemental Data you are funded based on the Housing Plans selected on your SAR, and will not include child care, dependent allowance, or computer allowance.
