General Benefit Information & Requirements

Post-9/11 GI Bill

  • The Post 9/11 GI Bill provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
  • Approved training under the Post-9/11 GI Bill includes graduate and undergraduate degrees, and vocational/technical training. All training programs must be offered by an institution of higher learning (IHL) and approved for GI Bill benefits. Additionally, tutorial assistance, and licensing and certification test reimbursement are approved under the Post- 9/11 GI Bill.

Chapter 31: Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program
(Contact the VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment office at 713-383-1985)

  • Any veteran of WW II or thereafter, who has service-connected disability which entitles him or her to VA disability, and who is in need of vocational rehabilitation because of the disability.
  • Once approved the Houston Area Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment office will submit VA Form 28-1905 for certification by schools.

Chapter 32: Post-Vietnam Era Veterans' Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)

  • Dependents and survivors of certian veterans who have serious disabilities as a result of their service (100% disabled), who have died of a service connected cause, are a prisoner of war, or are missing in action.

  • Dependents and survivors of certian veterans who have serious disabilities as a result of their service (100% disabled), who have died of a service connected cause, are a prisoner of war, or are missing in action, may be eligible for the VA benefits program called Chapter 35.

  • If you are currently participating in a 6-year enlistment, reenlist, or extension of an enlistment, in the Selective Reserve.

 

Chapter 1607: Activated Reservist

  • A member of a reserve component who serves on active duty on or after September 11, 2001, and who serves at least 90 consecutive days or National Guard members if they serve for 90 consecutive days. Disabled members who are injured or have an illness or disease incurred or aggravated in the line of duty and are released from active duty before completing 90 consecutive days are also eligible.
