Training Time

Training time for students receiving veterans' educational assistance refers to enrollment status and is defined below. Please contact the Veterans Benefit Coordinator to determine training time criteria for the various summer terms.

  • Undergraduate and Post Baccalaureate Students-Credit Hours
    Full-time student: 12 hours or more
    Three-quarter-time student: 9 to 11 hours
    Half-time student: 6 to 8 hours
    Less than half-time student: 5 hours or less (tuition/fees only)

  • Graduate Students-Credit Hours
    Full-time student: 9 hours or more
    Three-quarter-time student: 7 to 8 hours
    Half-time student: 5 to 6 hours
    Less than half-time student: 4 hours or less (tuition/fees only)

  • Medical Students-Clock Hours for academic year

The Veterans Benefit Coordinator will notify you when your benefits have been certified and if adjustments are made to credit hours reported. Your benefits will be processed for each semester your eligible. Should you be notified that you are no longer eligible for benefits, please provide this office with notification.

You maybe eligible to receive the Hazelwood Exemption if you:

  • Are Texas residents
  • Were Texas residents at the time they entered the U.S. Armed Forces
  • Have served at least 181 days of active military duty, as indicated as "net active service" (the sum of 12(c) and 12(d) on the DD214)
  • Have received an honorable discharge or separation or a general discharge under honorable conditions
