Provost’s & GSBS Dean’s Report – Faculty Senate 8/13/12

Provost Report:

· Provost/EVP/DOM Search - Dr. Callender recently hired Dr. Danny Jacobs, Chair of Surgery at Duke University to fill this position. Dr. Jacobs will join UTMB Oct 1, 2012.

· Annual evaluations of all Provost direct reports have been completed. All UTMB employees are expected to have a completed, filed evaluation.

· Following the AAHRPP site visit in June, a report from the review team was received with suggestions for improvement. A response to the suggestions was returned to AAHRPP recently, and we await notice of full accreditation.

· Mr. Brett Kirkpatrick, Associate VP of Library Services and Academic Support

Services is retiring Aug 31, 2012. Pat Ciejka, Administrative Director of Library Services, will serve as Interim VP of Library Services until the search for a permanent replacement for Mr. Kirkpatrick can be conducted.

Dean Report:

· The UT System health affairs Graduate Deans Council will hold its 1^st meeting of the new academic year in Austin on Saturday Sept 15.

· The GSBS looks forward to welcoming new students at the beginning of Orientation for all schools on Saturday August 18 at Moody Gardens.

· The 21^st year of the GSBS Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) concluded Friday, August 10. Each participant presented at a judged poster session that was followed by formal Closing Ceremony & Awards Presentation (copy of the agenda is attached). After the ceremony, a farewell dinner was held in the Levin Hall Dining Room. This year 26 undergraduates participated in the 10-week residential program (list of participants is attached). Co-Directors of SURP this year were Drs. Giulio Taglialatela and Stacy Sell.
