Provost’s & GSBS Dean’s Report – Faculty Senate 4/9/12

Provost Report:

· In the past 2 weeks the Provost EVP/DOM Search Committee met with 2 of the 6 candidates scheduled to visit UTMB and today they met with the 3^rd candidate. We are on track for Dr. Callender to select a new Provost/EVP/DOM possibly sometime in June.

· A second group of legislative staff visited UTMB on March 28 and heard presentations from the academic, health, and business EVPs. They also visited several campus facilities.

· A teleconference budget hearing with UT System leadership (Dr. Shine and his staff) was held last week on April 4.

· UT System leadership, including Chancellor Cigarroa, paid their annual all day visit to UTMB on March 26. Morning slide presentations by the EVPs (copy of Provost’s presentation attached) were followed by scheduled lunches with selected UTMB faculty, staff and students and by afternoon tours of various areas of the campus.

· Interprofessional Education Day & the Active Shooter Drill were held on March 28.

Dean Report

· Twenty or so undergraduates have been selected to attend The Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) will be held from early June-early August (10 weeks). The program will be co-directed by Drs. Giulio Taglialatella and Stacy Sell. Participants will be housed in the Ferry Road apartments normally occupied by UTMB students. This summer marks the 21^st year of the program.

· The GSBS annual Commencement ceremony is scheduled for 4pm on Friday, May 4 in Levin Hall and will be followed by an open reception in the Levin Hall dining room. In addition to the awarding of degrees, the ceremony will recognize the 2012 Distinguished Alumnus, and faculty winners of special annual awards for teaching, research, and longstanding service to the GSBS
