UTMB Faculty, there’s a new place on campus dedicated to you. The UTMB Faculty Lounge opened August 2005 on the ground floor of UTMB’s beloved Old Red. It promises to be a convenient and comfortable spot to meet old colleagues and make new ones, to exchange ideas, enjoy a meal and take a break.

About the Faculty Lounge
The new Faculty Lounge was a project championed by the UTMB Faculty Senate. The group advocated for a place where faculty from all four schools could come together in a collegial environment to discuss ideas, foster collaboration and scholarship, build relationships, provide mentoring and further strengthen the bonds among these important members of the UTMB community.

The lounge is housed in newly renovated space on the ground floor of the Ashbel Smith Building, or Old Red. It may be accessed from the inside of Old Red or through a door opening directly to the exterior, located on the north side of the building. The facility is wheelchair accessible and features a modern commercial kitchen, comfortable furnishings and a warm and stylish décor that is in keeping with the history and tradition of Old Red.

Hours of Operation -- Please Note Change in Hours
Monday through Friday
11:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Monday -- Thursday
11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Fridays

Lunch --  11:30 until 2:00 p.m.

Food and Beverages
The Faculty Lounge serves a lunch and light dinner. The menu is eclectic and changes regularly. It features many of UTMB Catering’s most popular offerings, plus specially created items. Specials are offered daily. A coffee bar and beverage service are available all day. Beer and wine are served after 5 p.m. until closing at 7 p.m.  Please, no outside food or beverages.

The lounge features wireless Internet access, satellite radio and comfortable lounge seating in a welcoming and bright environment.  Perfect place to have a small lunch meeting. 

Membership and Access
Membership to the Faculty Lounge is open to any member of the UTMB Faculty from any of the four schools. Membership is required for access to the facility.  Access to the facility is managed electronically via the UTMB Smart Card/ID Badge.  Beginning September 1, 2007 we will no longer charge Monthly Dues for the Lounge.

Members are billed monthly for their charges. An invoice is mailed monthly showing detailed expenses.
No cash is accepted in the facility.

Specials and Daily Menu
The UTMB Faculty Lounge offers an eclectic and delicious range of fine foods. Menus change regularly and chef's specials are offered daily. SEE THIS MONTH'S SPECIAL... 

Guest Policies
Membership in the Faculty Lounge is open to faculty of any rank from any of UTMB’s four schools. Membership is non-transferable; members may not grant use of their access privileges to any other individuals. Members are allowed to bring guests to the Faculty Lounge; non-members are admitted only in the company of their host members. Guests will be able to pay for their meals personally via credit card at the time of their visit (No cash is accepted in the Faculty Lounge and only members can be billed monthly.)

Facility Usage and Rental
The UTMB Faculty Lounge is available for meetings, receptions, special events and private events, which may all be catered by our Catering and Special Events Department.  Depending on the nature and time of your event, after hour and rental charges may apply.  If you are interested in scheduling an event please contact our office at extension 79581.  UTMB’s Department of Catering and Special Events is the exclusive foodservice provider for the facility.
